Program Introduction

The BS English (Literature) (BSEL) program equips learners with critical thinking, analytical reasoning and research skills to excel in all professional areas. The degree comprises a diverse array of courses, including classical to post-modern literature (American, Afro-American, English, South Asian), logic to reason and philosophy, general linguistics to second language acquisition, and creative writing to academic and research writing. The aim is to enable the learners with the right theoretical and practical tools to take a critical look at different literary forms such as poetry, prose and drama and creative non-fiction, leading to an expansion of vision and a deep understanding of the human experience. The research and writing courses aim to inculcate a modern skill set among the learners that would enable them to thrive in the modern digitized world. The BSEL program at UMT prepares the learners for rigorous post-graduate research and practices in literature. It also prepares them to perform exceptionally well in different professional fields, such as academia, civil and provincial services, journalism, content writing, freelance writing, editing & proofreading, publishing, library sciences and media & marketing, marketing. .
